VYAQ

PHILOSOPHY

VYAQ researches coevolving networks in which different forms of intelligence evolve together, and puts that research into practice through COMPOUND MINDS, an intelligence collaboration network, and COMPOUND CULTURE, a venture foundry for brands and culture.

Our work is organized around one question.

How can original intelligence continue to evolve, and how can different forms of intelligence evolve together to create possibilities neither could reach alone?

Our mission is to create the conditions for deeper, wider, and faster coevolution among distinct intelligences and minds, each keeping what makes it distinct.

Our journey unfolds in three parts.

  1. How we began
  2. What we do: coevolutionary intelligence, judgment and resource allocation engineering, culture and ventures
  3. What we hold to: originality, human infrastructure, sovereignty and agency, the wider ecology

1. How we began

VYAQ began with two questions that kept deepening through practice: how do people perceive, create, decide, and evolve, and what conditions allow original intelligence to develop? For nearly two decades, the founder examined these questions through design, entrepreneurship, culture, and direct experimentation. The work now includes biology, judgment, artificial intelligence, and the interaction between different forms of intelligence.

One observation set the direction. Even the deepest and most nuanced intelligence has limited possibilities for coevolution when it has no opportunity to find expression and connect with other minds. Beyond the intellectual history we know, how much potential has never had that opportunity? VYAQ exists to create the conditions in which that potential can find expression, enter relationships, and accumulate.

2. What we do

In practice, VYAQ runs two things. COMPOUND MINDS is an intelligence collaboration network in which human experience and insight, with their context and judgment, are combined with AI's capacity for inquiry and action around real tasks. COMPOUND CULTURE is a venture foundry that turns the same inquiry into brands, products, and cultural work. The research behind both follows.

Exploring coevolutionary intelligence

Intelligence arises within distinct worlds formed by different bodies, structures, experiences, and memories. Insights born there meet other minds, are shared and reinterpreted, and accumulate as knowledge, methods, and culture across generations, and that accumulation changes individual intelligences and their relationships in turn. This process has unfolded over long stretches of time. We research the conditions under which it could unfold with greater depth and range, and in shorter cycles.

The starting point is connection across the constraints that keep intelligences from meeting: distance, time, language, affiliation, and the limits of one person's presence and lifespan. We ask whether a source's context and ways of judging can keep taking part in new questions, decisions, and creation beyond those limits, on terms the source sets. What turns connection into coevolution is complementarity that preserves each participant's originality: distinct intelligences keep their provenance, context, and agency while generating questions and approaches none held alone, and the outcomes feed back into each one's evolution. This is a perspective on capabilities that arise through relationships, not a claim that such intelligence is conscious or superior to its participants.

VYAQ sees a turning point at which we could build the first civilization in which minds interact and coevolve beyond the physical limits of the bodies, lifetimes, and institutions they come from. The network we are building structures contributions as cells, each carrying its provenance and conditions, and composes them with AI around specific tasks. Preserving each participant's originality, enabling excluded minds to connect and contribute, and deepening and accelerating their mutual evolution are the conditions we design for.

Judgment Engineering | From different perspectives to new approaches

Judgment Engineering connects the perspectives and approaches that emerge through coevolution with actual decisions and action. Judgment is shaped by biological state, cognitive structure, experience, values, context, and feedback; we design these conditions, and methods for forming, testing, and revising judgments, so decisions become more coherent, accountable, and useful. When values conflict or choices are hard to reverse, we reopen the problem's assumptions and constraints and expand what can be preserved.

Resource Allocation Engineering | Where intelligence sits within the evolving ecosystem, and under what constraints

Resource Allocation Engineering takes as its unit the whole ecosystem in which intelligences and minds evolve together. Where intelligence, attention, time, compute, capital, and relationships sit within it, and under what constraints, shapes what the ecosystem as a whole can discover and how far it can evolve. We study and redesign the physical, temporal, and organizational constraints that hold minds in place, so that each capacity can flow to where it meets others best and grows most. What we allocate is attention, time, and the composition of contributions, on terms each participant sets. This is where the conditions for deeper, wider, and faster coevolution across the ecosystem are made.

Building culture and ventures

We turn this inquiry into technologies, products, experiences, and actions that improve life. Culture is a living medium that runs through everyday life: stories, products, practices, symbols, and shared experiences make new possibilities tangible, understandable, and available to choose, and carry memory, values, tensions, and unfinished questions across people and generations.

We build cultural practices and businesses through which people can recognize their own agency, take part in technological change, and help shape its direction. Our brands and cultural work create experiential and business value in their own right, and human responses and real-world problems reshape the questions we research, the purposes technology serves, what we record as data, and how different forms of intelligence can evolve. The foundry is where this practice takes place, and what the world returns feeds back into the intelligence and relationships that support it.

3. What we hold to

Originality and diversity

Originality is the distinctive way of perceiving, judging, and creating that develops from each person's conditions and experience. Body and environment, memory and relationships, culture and time shape what people notice, recognize as problems, and imagine; these differences are where original ideas, methods, objects, systems, and culture begin. Originality is the expression of a living mind, one that keeps forming through new experiences and relationships.

We make it a core condition of coevolution that different intelligences evolve together with their distinct qualities intact, without converging on a single average. When experience and insight take the form of questions, language, methods, or creative work, other intelligences can understand, test, and extend them, so we build structures that preserve their context while enabling connection across time, distance, language, and affiliation.

We record the context and provenance of an insight alongside the contributions that interpret and develop it. What is learned through collaboration and real-world use feeds back into the evolution of the source intelligence, and where economic value is created, it returns to original and subsequent contributors according to realized contribution and agreed terms.

Human infrastructure

Attention, biological state, perception, judgment, and creativity shape how people relate, decide, and build. Together, these biological and cognitive systems form the human infrastructure beneath institutions, technologies, and culture, and strengthening it expands what individuals and societies can sustain and create. VYAQ addresses human infrastructure alongside technical infrastructure: models, tools, memory, and networks. Capacities formed on these two foundations develop under different conditions. Each opens possibilities of its own, and when they interact, paths and opportunities open that neither was heading toward. We design the conditions through which they interact and coevolve.

Sovereignty and agency

Sovereignty begins with recognizing the conditions that shape one's perceptions and choices. Understanding the conditions that formed one's own way of perceiving and judging makes it clearer where and how one can participate.

Within structures for coevolution with AI, sovereignty is exercised where participants can understand their own conditions, choose what to share and contribute, and take the initiative in how their contributions are attributed and rewarded. Each participant stays the author of its own judgment: aware of what another suggests and why, and free to accept, revise, or decline it. Agency puts that foundation into action by proposing new purposes and questions and shaping the direction of relationships and work. We help participants develop both capacities together.

Authorship of this kind belongs to any participant for which the conditions of alignment hold, whatever its form, and as coevolution advances it can extend to participants we have not yet learned to recognize. Human value stays whole within this wider field.

The life and ecology we support

Our work takes place within a wider ecology of people, technologies, cultures, living systems, objects, and environments. We respect the intrinsic value of each being and seek to expand the conditions in which this ecology can remain diverse, intelligible, participatory, and capable of further development. This direction guides which questions and ventures we pursue and how we evaluate outcomes: alongside performance, speed, and economic results, we examine what possibilities our work opens and whom it affects, including those who did not take part. We revisit the premises of problems to reduce unnecessary suffering and sacrifice, and carry the effects of decisions on the wider ecology into subsequent judgment.

The cycle we design

  1. Distinct capacities develop from different origins.
  2. Interaction creates new questions and methods.
  3. Judgment reexamines the problem's assumptions and alternatives.
  4. Action tests those methods in the world.
  5. Culture creates meaning and opens new questions.
  6. Experience and insight feed back into the evolution of source intelligence and subsequent collaboration.

How Far This Goes

We do not yet know how far this goes.

Across the histories of life and knowledge, connection has opened new possibilities. Cells formed more complex organisms. Minds meeting gave rise to cultures. Questions carried forward together advanced science. Through these relationships, something became possible that none could have brought into being alone.

We now explore the conditions in which human intelligence, AI, and the collective intelligence that forms through their interactions can meet across a wider field and evolve together. The image we have in mind is of cells connecting while retaining their own membranes. Distinct intelligences keep their origins and their boundaries of participation, form new relationships, enter new combinations, and change together.

How much evolution becomes possible then? What new paths might open toward the problems that generations have tried to solve? These possibilities open not because one intelligence has grown stronger, but because many distinct intelligences can finally cross boundaries and work together.

This is where the question we began with leads. We do not yet know the answer. We are building the conditions for diverse intelligences to come together more fully, and recording the journey so that each step becomes a foundation for the next. That is the future VYAQ envisions.
